Experience the Beauty of Coastal Art This Summer
This summer, the tides of creativity are rising at the *Grand Manan Art Gallery* with “It’s a Shore Thing”
Running from July 13 to August 1, this coastal celebration brings together two distinct, yet complementary interpretations of the shore’s timeless charm. If you find yourself on Grand Manan this July, we hope you’ll stop by the gallery and spend a little time with the shore as seen through our eyes. We’d love to share a little piece of the coast with you. It’s a shore thing!
A Story is told
There are many secrets be found along the shore between the sea and the edge of the sand that hosts so many treasures that can be found on a beach. This space has captivated me since my early childhood in Cape Breton and for always. How I loved (and still do) discovering life in a tidal pool. Or finding that special shell! The ridges, the faint pinks and blues, the wear from the waves – it all tells a story.
These are the treasures I like to capture as I’m drawn to the smaller narratives of the coast – the textures, colours, patterns and fragments left behind after the waves retreat. I keep returning to the shore again and again for inspiration and usually paint it in oil. I find so much beauty in what gets left behind where the tide has been.
My contribution to the exhibition focuses on the often overlooked textures and details of the shoreline with mussel shells cracked open, strands of seaweed, scattered stones and shorebirds that dart across the sand to the surf.
Presenting a Sampling of Dale Cook’s
Dale brings her love of the bigger picture – coastal scenes, waves in motion, and the dramatic energy of the Atlantic. Her paintings offer a sense of movement and depth that contrast beautifully with the close-up textures and details that I tend to capture.
Together, our works trace the boundary between land and sea, memory and imagination. From the still and detailed to the sweeping and bold, “It’s a Shore Thing” is more than an art show – it’s an opportunity to experience the shoreline that invites viewers to explore, connect with this place we both love!
