2026 St. Martins Plein Air Festival

There are few places in New Brunswick that seem made for Plein Air painting quite like St. Martins. With it’s sea caves, dramatic coastline, beaches, fishing boats, colourful buildings, and ever-changing tides offering endless inspiration. This is a place my good friend Dale Cook and I paint regularly. Recently we spent three days fully immersed while participating in the 2026 Plein Air Festival in St. Martins. A very special shout out to the Peter Salmon Art Club and their incredible dedication and attention in organizing this wonderful event. I am very honoured to have participated as one of the ten invited artists and having the privilege of acting as a…

Q1 and what have I done?

Isn’t This an Oxymoron? The first quarter of the year is almost always studio time – it allows me to focus…mainly on distractions mind you. This is quite important because I, as a Master Procrastinator, managed to delay the start of a major commission! Although in all fairness to me – I wanted to get new work into the gallery before I go radio silent while working on this rather ambitious painting. Crow Paintings: Capturing Presence and Attitude Five crow paintings took center stage – two as part of a Midnight Series that I have been planning and three just because I wanted to. Each painting leans into their presence…

2025 A Year of Color and Attention

Looking back at this year of painting I painted a lot this past year. Twenty Seven paintings. Holy Moly! Some paintings were so easily created that they almost painted themselves.  Then there were others where the whole process was a struggle and a bit frustrating. Some work may hover in the almost done stage for weeks and is looking for more patience than I thought I had. I have previously mentioned that I do have a lot of “impatience” especially with myself!  Color (really value) continues to lead the way as it almost always does with me. Without realizing, I leaned into it more boldly, trusting instinct over planning. Detail…

When Your Art Page Gets Hacked

I got hacked. Lost my art page and a little bit of trust along with it There’s nothing quite like that gut-punch moment when you realize your Instagram art page – the one you’ve spent years building – has been hacked. Commandeered.  Taken over.  All your efforts in those posts, connections, and quiet moments of sharing your work with people who genuinely care about it… are suddenly out of your control and replaced with spam posts! It’s frustrating, infuriating, and honestly, a little heartbreaking. You pour so much of yourself into your online spaces. It’s not just “social media” – it’s our gallery, our portfolio and often our community. The…

Experience the Beauty of Coastal Art This Summer

The tides of creativity are rising at the *Grand Manan Art Gallery* with “It’s a Shore Thing” This exhibition runs from July 13 to August 1. This coastal celebration brings together two distinct, yet complementary interpretations of the shore’s timeless charm. If you find yourself on Grand Manan this July, we invite you to stop by the gallery and spend a little time with the shore as seen through our eyes. We’d love to share a little piece of the coast with you. It’s a shore thing! A Story is told There are many secrets be found along the shore between the sea and the edge of the sand that…
