Behind the Scenes of Glowing Garden Painting
For several months, Glowing Garden was a big secret – from its owner. She wanted to wait until it was completed to see it! This 36 × 48-inch oil painting was a commissioned piece, and until yesterday, the person who commissioned it hadn’t seen any part of the painting. That made the process feel a little different from my usual work. Although I knew where the painting was going, I was unable to share my work in progress or get feedback along the way. 2026 St. Martins Plein Air Festival
There are few places in New Brunswick that seem made for Plein Air painting quite like St. Martins. With it’s sea caves, dramatic coastline, beaches, fishing boats, colourful buildings, and ever-changing tides offering endless inspiration. This is a place my good friend Dale Cook and I paint regularly. Recently we spent three days fully immersed while participating in the 2026 Plein Air Festival in St. Martins. My “Painted Places” Map
After weeks of wondering how to make it happen and with a lot of research, in combination with a generous heap of procrastination (spending $$$) – I finally figured it out. Sun, Salt and Slow Time
As we walked down the ramp to exit the plane, I turned to look at my husband and said “please remind me not to complain about the heat for at least three minutes”. We laughed. We arrived both sun starved and aching for warm (hot) weather. We were certainly not disappointed. Have you ever gotten a headache because the sun was too bright? Q1 and what have I done?
Isn’t This an Oxymoron? The first quarter of the year is almost always studio time – it allows me to focus…mainly on distractions mind you.
