Sunny Serenade, A Lilac story

I was recently asked why I love to paint lilacs.  I think because they evoke an emotional response when you see them. They certainly do for me. It’s like they transport you back to a simpler time.

Lilacs are mood-setters. Their soft purples, lavenders, and lilac tones feel like nature’s way of giving us a big, cozy hug. In art, they’re all about springtime vibes, fresh starts, and a hint of nostalgia. Much like when you catch a faint floral scent on a sunny day. And this is an interesting that when I’m painting lilacs I feel like I can actually smell their scent. This is magic to me!

I like to think that when I can capture that kind of magic in paint, you’re not just looking at a flower that you are feeling it. When I decided to paint this lilac piece I knew I wanted to capture that feeling of warmth and sunshine, that feeling of endless summer. I wanted to create a painting that makes you feel all of that.

And I wanted to paint it big.  Painting on a big canvas allows me dive into the detail and that always excites me, like the curve of each petal and catching the way the light dances on the blossoms. It’s not just art – it’s a vibe.  A large oil painting is a statement piece!

Imagine walking into your room and seeing a large lilac painting glowing on your wall. Larger paintings have a power that can make you pause and enjoy the moment.

Sure, a large oil painting is an investment, but it’s one that pays you back every day by bringing you a daily source of joy and inspiration. Plus, owning an original painting is pretty special—it’s like having a little piece of the artist’s soul hanging in your home.

A large oil painting of a lilac is more than decor. It’s a statement, a mood, and a little slice of beauty that makes your space feel uniquely yours. Whether you’re an art collector or someone who loves beautiful things, this is one piece you wouldn’t regret adding to your collection. So, why not take the leap and let a lilac bloom in your space?

Until next time, may your days be filled with colour!
